After years of campaigning, Marvel Studios is finally giving fans a Black Widow standalone movie, and now the film has a rumoured director.
According to Deadline, Australian director Cate Shortland is the frontrunner to direct the standalone Black Widow movie. Shortland’s last project was the critically-acclaimed Berlin Syndrome, which tells the story of a woman held captive by a man after a one night stand. Since the Black Widow movie is rumoured to be a prequel that explores Natasha Romanoff’s disturbing past, I’d say Shortland is probably a good choice.
It’s important to note that this is simply speculation and Shortland doesn’t have the job yet. In fact, reports claim that Marvel is looking at multiple female directors for the project, with the shortlist also containing names like Amma Asante and Maggie Betts.
