Christian Bale portrayed Bruce Wayne aka. Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and is largely recognised as the greatest Batman of all-time. With such a rich history as the character, you’d think he’d be interested to see the current Batman in action, but while appearing on Happy Sad Confused Podcast to promote his new western Hostiles, Bale revealed that he still hasn’t seen Ben Affleck as Batman.
I have not [seen Ben Affleck’s Batman]. Yes I’m interested [in seeing it], my son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see the trailer and that was it—I tend to go see films that [my kids] want to see. I have to confess I’m not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that, I don’t know why. I’ve not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good.
It’s not surprising to hear that Bale hasn’t seen Affleck’s Batman yet. If I played the most iconic character of all-time, I don’t think I’d rush out to see if my replacement did it better. It is comforting, however, to learn that Bale isn’t actively avoiding Batfleck and just isn’t interested in seeing any more superhero movies. As strange as it sounds, not everyone loves superhero movies.
