Disney Buys Most Of 21st Century Fox For $52.4 Billion

Disney is buying a huge chunk of 21st Century Fox in a deal that will reshape the entertainment industry.

After weeks of speculation, Walt Disney has officially announced its acquisition of a large portion of 21st Century Fox. The deal, which reportedly went through for $52.4 billion, gives Disney control of more than a few successful franchises and will have an unknown impact on the entertainment landscape.

In addition to 21st Century Fox’s movie studio, Disney is buying cable channels FX and National Geographic. Disney will also get Fox’s stakes in Hulu and European pay-TV provider Sky.

Of course, in the nerd community, Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox gives Disney and Marvel the opportunity to use characters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At this time, it’s impossible to guess what Disney will do with these properties and what changes will be made, but I think it’s safe to assume that we’ll see Wolverine and Hulk together in the foreseeable future.

This is a breaking news story and is still developing.
