Earlier this week it was rumoured that Hugh Jackman will return in a future Avengers movie, but Jackman doesn’t seem prepared to return to the character that he spent nearly twenty years portraying. Jackman recently sat down with Collider to discuss his new movie The Greatest Showman, where he briefly talked about a possible return to the claws. In the interview, Jackman stated that he wished he could’ve appeared alongside characters like Iron Man and The Hulk and says that he would like to see a new actor play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
read what Jackman said below:
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, “Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,” and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, “Hang on!” But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else, I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
It should be made clear that Jackman does say that he isn’t sure what will happen in the future. We could see a scenario where the actor is tempted by a great script or idea, but for now, I think it’s safe to assume that we won’t see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Personally, I would prefer to see another actor portray Wolverine in the MCU. Logan was a perfect way to say goodbye to Hugh Jackman, and I really don’t see Marvel Studios giving Hugh Jackman the freedom that Fox and James Mangold offered him in that movie.
