First introduced in the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Idris Elba is possibly the most under-utilised actor in Marvel’s catalogue. Granted, Heimdall isn’t a major character in the franchise, but it would be amazing to see the actor in a larger role, and it seems like Elba agrees.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Idris Elba briefly discusses his desire to play a larger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor states that he didn’t enjoy the previous two Thor movies, but Taika Waititi and Thor: Ragnarok made him crave a more pivotal hero in the MCU.
I like that I have a little part in Thor. I’m neither movie star or day player. It allows me to do other things I love. The last one [Ragnarok] was fun. The others weren’t fun. They’re work. But on this one, Taika [Waititi, the director] was great. I wish I was more present in the Marvel family. I like what I have, but I also wish that I had a bigger character in the Marvel universe… It’s been great, but I kinda think I need a bit more. I want to be a superhero. I like the idea of that.
EW also released a new look at Heimdall in Thor: Ragnarok, and it’s fair to say that the character looks very different from his last appearance, which was in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
