It looks like Castiel is about as dead as Dean, Sam, Mary and just about any other character on the show. The CW has released the official poster for Supernatural season thirteen, which features the Winchester brothers Sam and Dean, alongside their brother from another mother, Castiel.
In an interview with TVLine, the shows executive producer Andrew Dabb said, “death is not the end for Castiel. It’s a part of his story. That being said, he’s more dead than people usually get on our show when we pick up our season. Castiel has a significant role to play for us, but that may not be as soon as some people are hoping.”

Supernatural season thirteen will see Sam and Dean face-off against a familiar villain, with a new face. Christian Keyes will portray the archangel Michael, who was last seen in the season five finale. This version of the character comes from an alternate reality, which was only briefly developed in the season twelve finale. “The Michael of apocalypse world is the victor,” showrunner Andrew Dabb tells Entertainment Weekly, “He’s a very different character than the one we met even in season 5. He’s Genghis Khan. He’s been through the wars. He’s conquered the world.”
It sure sounds like the alternate version of Michael is more dangerous than the one we met in season five. the fact that he’s “conquered the world” tells us he’s a massive threat to the Winchester brothers and their reality.
