In an unsurprising turn of events, Disney and Lucasfilm have pushed back the release of Star Wars: Episode IX. The third film in the new Star Wars trilogy was originally scheduled for release on May 24, 2019, but will now land in theatres December 20, 2019. The change of dates came just hours after the announcement that J.J. Abrams has replaced Colin Trevorrow as the director of Episode IX.
This shift will undoubtedly cause studios to rethink the placement of major projects. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman is currently scheduled for release in December, so Warner Bros. will probably want to shift things around and move the blockbuster out of Disney’s way.
