Matt Reeves is currently preparing to release his latest film, War For The Planet Of The Apes, and once the third movie in the franchise is in theatres, Reeves can officially start working on the solo Batman movie starring Ben Affleck. In a recent interview with Fandango, Reeves was asked if there are plans for a new Batman trilogy, and apparently, the director does have a few ideas.
“I have ideas about an arc, but really, the important thing is just to start… you have to start with one. You know, you have to start with a story that begins something. And I would be lying if I could tell you that the arcs of Apes was already planned out, because it simply wasn’t; it’s one of those things where that character was so potent, and the possibility was embedded from the beginning, but exactly how you’ve got from A to Z is not something that existed.”
I’m glad to hear that Reeves is focused on telling a great Batman story, and isn’t being distracted with the development of an entire trilogy. We’ve seen recent examples of films which have tried too hard to set up future movies, so it’s a relief to hear that Reeves is taking his time to tell one good story, that will hopefully expand into a trilogy of new Batman films.
