Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them massively expanded the Harry Potter universe, and J.K. Rowling hopes to continue that expansion with the still untitled Fantastic Beasts sequel. Fantastic Beasts 2 just started principle photography in the U.K and some interesting new casting details have been revealed.

As previously reported, Eddie Redmayne will return as Newt Scamander alongside  Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as her sister, Queenie and Dan Fogler as no-maj Jacob Kowalski. Johnny Depp will also return as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald and Ezra Miller’s Credence is said to be returning in a “mysterious” way.

A bunch of new characters will also be introduced in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, including Jude Law as legendary Albus Dumbledore, Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange and Callum Turner as Newt’s brother, Theseus Scamander.

The cast for the Fantastic Beasts sequel will also include:

  • William Nadylam as wizard Yusuf Kama
  • Ingvar Sigurdsson as a bounty hunter named Grimmson
  • Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender, who runs a wizarding circus
  • Claudia Kim as an “attraction” at the circus
  • Kevin Guthrie as Abernathy, also known as Tina and Queenie’s boss at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA)

The announcement also revealed some interesting plot details, including the arrival of Albus Dumbledore in this new corner of the Wizarding World…

J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the film, which opens in 1927, a few months after Newt helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. However, as he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina, Queenie and Jacob, but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.

The film expands the wizarding world, moving from New York to London and on to Paris. There are also some surprising nods to the Harry Potter stories that will delight fans of the books and film series.

The next Fantastic Beasts movie will arrive in cinemas on November 16th, 2018. Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling currently have plans for five movies in the franchise. Let me know what you think of the cast and plot details in the comments section below!
