Many people think that Spider-Man’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in last year’s Captain America: Civil War, but Tom Holland just revealed that the character was introduced years earlier in Iron Man 2. While promoting the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland confirmed an interesting theory, which ties the character all the way back to Robert Downey Jr’s second Iron Man movie.
In Iron Man 2, a young child wearing Iron Man armour was shown to be unafraid of Hammer’s drones and actually risked his life to stand up to the robotic villains. Years later, Tom Holland has revealed that the kid in Iron Man 2 was actually Peter Parker.
See what Holland said below:
It is Peter Parker. I can confirm that, that is Peter Parker. I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.
This is a really amazing aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s a cool way to look back at one of the earliest MCU movies. To be able to look back and see a young Peter Parker just adds depth to Iron Man 2 and proves that Spidey was a hero before he ever got superpowers.
