After the shocking news that directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had bee fired from the Han Solo spin-off movie, Lucasfilm has quickly found a replacement. Ron Howard, director of films such as A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code has stepped in to helm the Han Solo movie.
Howard has a long-standing relationship with Lucasfilm and its president Kathleen Kennedy, having almost directed The Phantom Menace. According to reports, Lucasfilm see’s Howard as a safe pair of hands and trustworthy director to deliver the Han Solo movie on time. Shooting is scheduled to continue on 10 July, giving the new director a chance to get to know his cast and familiarise himself with the task ahead.
Personally, I’m not sure what the hell is going on over at Lucasfilm. I think it’s more than strange that it took months for the studio to realise that Lord and Miller weren’t the right creative team for the project. I am still excited for the Han Solo movie and trust that Ron Howard will do a great job in steadying the ship and correcting the direction of the movie.
The Han Solo spinoff movie stars Alden Ehrenreich as the younger Han Solo, the film also features Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Thandie Newton. The film is still scheduled for release in May 2018.
