Suicide Squad might not have been a critical success, but the film easily made enough money to warrant a sequel. The script for Suicide Squad 2 is still being developed and no director has been selected, but according to Joel Kinnaman, the film is expected to begin production in 2018.

Kinnaman, who plays Rick Flag in the franchise recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed some interesting details. See what he had to say below:
“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.”
“Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.”
Personally, I’m glad to see that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to Suicide Squad. While the introduction of the characters wasn’t perfect, the characters themselves were interesting enough to continue within the DC Extended Universe. This property has enough potential to become great, and I’m willing to see what a new director can create with these characters.
