‘The Originals’ Says Goodbye To A Major Character

This week's episode of The Originals finally showed us why we should be scared of The Hollow.

Warning Major SPOILERS For The Originals Ahead!

This week’s episode of The Originals finally showed us why we should be scared of The Hollow. The villainous spirit has haunted the supernatural residents of New Orleans for weeks, but finally made a move and forced fans to say goodbye to a major character, as Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) was sacrificed in the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries spin-off.

The Originals

In the closing moments of last week’s episode, Sofya (possessed by The Hollow) shoved the magic stake into Elijah’s back, and we learn very early in this episode that The Hollow will try to sacrifice Elijah and use his death to be reborn in our world. Thankfully Klaus, Freya, Hayley, Vincent and Marcel figure out a way to save Elijah, which includes placing his soul into Freya’s necklace and bringing him back later. This has worked in the past so it’ll definitely work this time right? Wrong.

While The Hollow starts to suck the life out of Elijah, Freya attempts the spell but things don’t go exactly to plan when the pendant shatters into pieces, leaving Elijah to desiccate and die with Hayley and Freya watching.

The Originals

That’s right folks, The Originals actually killed off a major character, but don’t worry he’ll probably be back in a few weeks. Soon after Elijah’s death Freya and Hope manage to tap into the shattered necklace and learn that the spell did work and Elijah’s soul is inside, but he might not be having a good time in there. Freya claims to have heard Elijah screaming in pain…and as if things couldn’t get worse, the episode closes with The Hollow punching her way through to our world, which I’m guessing is bad news since the earth literally shook when she arrived.

Are you sad to see Elijah die? How many episodes until he returns? Let me know in the comments!
