It looks like the X-Men franchise isn’t quite done with Magneto yet! Michael Fassbender recently appeared on MTV’s Josh Horowitz’s podcast Happy Sad Confused and was asked if he would return to the X-Men universe:
“Possibly. Yeah, likely.”
While not 100% confirmed the actor did hint towards his return in the Dark Phoenix movie and not the New Mutants spin-off. The fact that he only teased his involvement rather than announcing Magneto’s return is likely due to contract negotiations, or maybe Fox doesn’t want anyone to know.
Personally, I’m glad to see that Fassbender will return to the franchise. While I’ve not loved every X-Men film featuring the actor it’s undeniable that he is great in the role and delivers a standout performance in each new X-Men movie. Given a choice I would like to see more of a focus on the X-Men characters and less on Xavier and Magneto. I mean, how many times can this guy really be the main villain? Luckily it seems like I’ll get my wish as Dark Pheonix will focus on the darker side of Jean Grey.
Writer/Producer Simon Kinberg is looking to direct Dark Pheonix which currently has a November 2018 release date.
