According to reports from the Shanghai premiere of Wonder Woman, DC Extended Universe producer Deborah Snyder revealed that Joss Whedon’s Batgirl will be the next DC female-led superhero movie after Wonder Woman. That means the solo Batgirl film will land before the recently revealed Wonder Woman sequel and the Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) starring Birds of Prey movie from David Ayer.
Joss Whedon was reported as the writer/director of a Batgirl movie back in March but it was only confirmed by the man himself during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 premiere in April. The film still doesn’t have an official release date and details are scarce but it looks like the film is being fast-tracked into production. Perhaps Warner Bros. has learned that they have the upper hand against Marvel when it comes to female-led superhero movies.
